With our freezing feet, we climb the narrow and steep streets to reach Namsan Seoul Tower. The interconnected streets led us to the cable car terminal. Thank goodness for restaurants within the building, our rumbling stomachs longing for food was again satisfied.
We had the option to either ride the cable car or set ourselves on a foot journey. Of course, we chose the latter. Just kidding. With the way the temperature’s swiftly decreasing, we chose to ride the suspension cable car. It’s almost noon time when we arrive at the foot of N Seoul Tower.
We climb the oak-painted wooden stairs before reaching the area with countless of love locks clinging on the railings. It’s harder to go upwards when the air is thinning. I can’t even remember the number of times I stopped just to catch my breath. But not having to perspire every single minute is the silver lining of this experience.
At first, I was doubtful of which time of day would be best for this overlooking view. Daytime would give me a clearer view of the city — I can be able to watch the blue skies run gradually across the heavens. On the other hand, night time view would be a lot more romantic — a lot more surreal —the way the twinkling lights from afar come off as very dreamy. But the coldness can be a bother especially for those “cold weather” first-timers. The best advice I can give you is to determine which one’s to choose. You can do both anyway if you have all the time in the world.
Of course, this trip would not be complete without joining the bandwagon — writing on love locks and locking it into the steel bars all over the ledge.
Fortunately, I am single so I got all the spaces just for myself.
With my fascination for observation decks and its views, I availed the entrance ticket in a heartbeat. Heights do not fear me, instead, it kind of humbles me. It shows me that I am just a small fragment playing his part in this grand scheme we call life.
Right after an hour, we finally went down the tower and looked for a stranger that would give us the direction going to our next destination, Namsangol Hanok Village.
