Make Way for Marugame Udon

What makes a good night? Is it the celebration after a long day’s work? Or is it the culmination of every thing you have encountered from the moment you have opened those pretty little eyes? I say, it is both.

Your day can be shitty at work and have an amazing dinner to salvage yourself from getting too irate about it. Or you can take every single day as a beautiful lesson and reward yourself from getting through it with a sumptuous meal.

But for today, I want to celebrate a good news from work, and to be honest, my stomach is just really craving for Japanese food. Thank goodness for Marugame Udon for opening a branch a few walks away from where I currently work.

At exactly 6pm, I stand over a long line of people wanting to try it, as well. I did not know that it is the current fad in this area. My excitement went from 0 to 60 just thinking about the fact that this experience can go either very well or disappointingly bad.

Marugame Udon stretches long and narrow, with its counter found on the left. The way to order is somehow like how you do it in every cafeteria. You get to choose from the menu (some of which can be picked up from the trays laid out in front of you), Pick up the order of the ramen of your choice, pay upfront then pick a seat. It’s cool not being forced to wait for a long time just for your order to arrive. This setup is a major plus for me.

I know, I might be getting over my head for ordering more than one food. But hey, it’s not everyday that I get to celebrate something that’s work-related. This is how I pay the universe for being so kind to me. Never would I have imagined that in a span of two months, I would receive something huge.

What makes Marugame Udon a lot cooler than other restaurants is their playlist. If it won’t make you reminisce about your childhood, I don’t know what in the world could. Anime songs are playing in the background which gives you that extra boost to enthusiastically finish your food. Most of the songs are familiar to me because I was an anime nerd… Still am, honestly speaking.

The aroma coming from the Chicken Paitan Udon oozes as I place it on the edge of the table for some snapshots. Its hard to keep a straight face and endure its enticing look as I press the shutter a few times.

Once I finished, I split the chopsticks into half and lift the noodle — watching the broth slowly drip back into the bowl. The thickness of the udon makes my stomach feel a bit full in just a few bites. With the addition of the delicate pork, this meal is a total powerhouse. The broth is hanging between the fine line of being too rich and too bland.

Pork Tonkatsu, on the other hand, with its special sauce is going to bring you to meat heaven. With every bite of this tender treat, I found myself in a dilemma of which one to eat first, this or the udon.

Maybe its the music, maybe its the adrenaline rush you feel on the line while picking food, but Marugame Udon is a sure hit to me. I can totally see myself going back habitually. It’s inexpensive, it’s fast and efficient with its service — a total gem in the haystack of restaurants in Bonifacio Global City.
